BLACKHAWK RACEWAY 2008
August 1st-3rd
This year marks Wyatt’s 3rd year at Blackhawk Raceway which by the way is his favorite track and every year it seems to get hotter and hotter and this year was no exception. We arrived at the track Friday morning and we could tell it was going to be hot. Practice started and Wyatt did not make it back around because crew chief dad did not set up the engine right and Wyatt didn’t make it around turn one before the engine stalled. Then in the second practice we experienced coil problems (whatever that means.). By the third practice Wyatt was itching to get going and the rest of the day was good and we were ready to race.
Saturday turned out to be cooler then Friday. Grandpa Steve and Grandma Candy showed up to cheer Wyatt on. Wyatt practiced once, and then he was ready to race. The raced started, and Wyatt was leading the race. Tristan was experiencing engine problems so he was falling back and this left Wyatt able to drive away and finish first. It was a very uneventful race.
Sunday was another pretty nice day too. Grandpa Mark and Grandma Becky came to watch also. With one practice we were ready to race. After lots of work and a visit with our engine builder Tristan’s kart was running well and made for a much more exciting race. Tristan and Wyatt chased each other around the track each trying to pass the other. It was nice to see some competitive spirit in both of those boys. Wyatt made mom and dad very proud when he crossed the line first with Tristan right next to him.
Wyatt has won at Blackhawk 4 times and had a 2nd and a 18th when he was in a wreck there last year. It has been very disappointing to us to see the numbers of competitor’s drop in the CES series. We are not sure why they have moved on to other forms of racing, but it is not very much fun when we are only competing against a few other racers. This was the first race Wyatt used his new Leatt Brace. This new brace goes around his neck and down his back to protective his neck and spinal cord from serious injury. Wyatt said he liked it better then the foam one he wore before. It seems to be cooler and gives him more movement to turn his head so he can see his fellow racers on the track. I was surprised to see only a few of these braces at the track this weekend.
Wyatt would like to thank his Grandma and Grandpa Riemenschneider for the purchase of the new Leatt brace. We would also like to thank all of the grandparents for traveling to < xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" prefix="st1" namespace="">

Wyatt pulls off late race move for the win at the Road Race Grand Nationals 2 days in a row.
Finally, Matt hands over the computer to me. I just wanted to give a race report on the DUNLAP TIRE / ROAD AMERICA SUPER NATIONALS July 11-13th. Well as you know from Matt’s earlier post that Wyatt walked away with Two First Place tropies. I guess I shouldn’t say he walked away with it, but he won both days by only .03 seconds or less. That is just amazing.
The weekend started out in the rain. We spent most of Friday morning sitting in the truck watching movies or for me reading. After lunch the track dried up and practice started. Wyatt went out for his first run on the 4 mile track and it took him over three very long minutes for him to come back around. That seems like 10 minutes when you are waiting for him to come around. We got one more practice in on Friday.
We got to the track Saturday with one more practice we were ready to race. Jodi and I gave our boys hugs and headed down to turn 5. We liked this spot because you could see several areas of the 4 mile track. With walkie talkies in hand we were ready for some excitement, and excitement is what we got. When they first came around Tristan and Wyatt were behind a few of the other racers. Wyatt’s kart could really pull up the hill and that made it easy for him to pass there. When they made it around to the start finish line Wyatt had passed several of them. After a few laps Tristan blew his engine so he was out. This means no help from anybody. Through most of the race, Wyatt would be in first then back to third this went on forever, but really only 20 minutes. We knew they would get the checkers the next time by and Wyatt came up the hill in third he went around them and passed at the checkered flag. From where we were at you could not see the timing line. I was certain he won, but we had to wait for the sheet to tell us he won for sure. Wyatt was so excited and so were we. Wyatt received a large plaque and the well know cheese cow. Sebastian also won his race for the day.
Sunday started of kind of sad. We were informed in the drivers meeting of a serious accident that happened to a well know racer in this series. With sadness in our hearts we continued the race, because we know that’s what he would want. We had one practice and then it was time to race. This race we drove around a little more to see more of the track. Wow did Wyatt do well in the places we never get to see. Tristan with a backup engine looked good in the start too. Tristan backup engine was a little weak and was unable to keep up with Wyatt and the other three PG racers going for first. Wyatt never gave up and followed them most of the way. He was just waiting. We drove to the finish line and watched as they came up the hill. I was too excited. Wyatt was trying to get by and had to go to the grass at the finish line to get passed the other three karts. It was too close to call but we were still excited I was sure he won again. We were so proud of Wyatt he did such a great job. He won again! Tristan ended up with 6th place. Up next well actually several hours later Sebastian’s race started. It was pretty exciting too. He came away with the win.
Overall our weekend was filled with happiness and sadness. Our hearts and prayers go out to Adam’s family. Congrats to Wyatt we are very proud of you!
Love, MOM

Just an update on the last few sprint races we had at 61 Kartway in Delmar, Iowa. We had several big races the last couple of months. Our first race there was the Tag Shootout. This track is a hard track to race and pass on. Wyatt ended up with 4th in the TaG Cadet class.
The next race we had was Route 66 series race. There was a lot of people there to race so it made it very exciting. Wyatt ended up in 4th again.
Wyatt is in the #2 kart.
The last race we had over there was Central State SKUSA Challenge. There was a class for Garrett so he was ready to race. We practiced the day before the race and he blew his engine. Unfortunetly we did not have a back up engine for him so he was unable to race. Wyatt raced two classes and had podium finishes for both. He finished 2nd in Tag Cadet and 4th in the Yamaha jr. class. A big thanks to the boy’s grandparents for coming to cheer them on at this race.
